Artificial grass installation in Swindon
Planning a new artificial lawn, or replacing real grass that’s worn, patchy or muddy? Tell us about your garden and we’ll get back to you to arrange a quote.
What a good installation includes
Artificial grass is only as good as what’s underneath it. A proper job usually involves:
- Clearing the area – lifting the old turf and removing weeds and roots.
- Building a base – a compacted sub-base (often crushed stone) and a finer laying course on top, so the lawn stays level and drains.
- A weed membrane to stop weeds coming through.
- Edging to hold the grass in place along borders and paths.
- Laying and joining the grass, with joins hidden as far as possible.
- Finishing – brushing the pile up, and adding kiln-dried sand infill if the grass needs it.
Things worth thinking about
- Drainage. On heavy or clay soil, water drains slowly, so the base matters even more. Mention any boggy spots in your request.
- Access. Old turf and soil come out and stone goes in, so it helps to know if there’s side access or everything goes through the house.
- Pile height and feel. Shorter piles are easier to keep tidy; longer ones look lusher. If you have a dog, see artificial grass for dogs.
- Sun and heat. Artificial grass can get warm in strong sun. Worth bearing in mind for south-facing gardens and play areas.
